Buy Goods for Rock Bottom Prices at School and Church Fetes and Sell Them for Record High Prices on eBay by Avril Harper author of 'Bank Big Profits Selling Vintage Topographical View Postcards on eBay' and 'Make Money Tearing Up Old Books and Magazines and Selling Them on eBay'.
School and Church Fetes are a bit like jumble sales but they’re often heavy in items made by children and parents, church officials and worshippers to raise funds for school trips or repairs to the church roof. But at these events you’ll sometimes find quality manufactured items and antiques donated by fundraisers alongside low profit items with good resale potential.
Visitors enjoy the same benefits as those to jumble sales, namely the chance to buy high profit items for low prices, while also suffering similar problems of crowding and pushing. But school and church fetes are excellent places to make contact with artists and craftworkers, also cooks and cake decorators whose goods are selling on the day and might fetch much higher prices on eBay.
I have personally made some excellent contacts at these events, notably a lady who creates ‘reborn’ dolls and another who paints dog portraits on velvet, in both cases willing to supply me with goods offering an easy £100 pure profit per sale.
When you visit, take a pocketful of business cards, hand them out to stall holders or product creators and offer to buy their goods to order (meaning you only spend money when you have a customer and you never buy goods in advance). Alternatively, suggest you’ll sell their goods on commission as a trading assistant. Whatever suits you best will usually suit artists and craftworkers, also cooks and cake decorators, among others, many highly skilled at creating goods and totally naff at selling them!
You’ll find school and church fetes advertised in much the same way as jumble sales, see earlier, and you can also pester vicars and head teachers about forthcoming fetes, by phone or email, or when you’re leaving church or picking the kids up from school.
